chartOpioid Harms Data Portal

Welcome to Peterborough Public Health’s Opioid Harms data portal.

Since 2019 we have been collecting and analyzing data on local opioid poisonings for the City of Peterborough, the County of Peterborough, Hiawatha First Nation, and Curve Lake First Nation through the Peterborough Opioid Early Warning and Surveillance System. We monitor data in four key areas:

  • naloxone distribution in our communities,
  • emergency medical service 911 calls for opioid poisonings,
  • emergency department visits for drug poisonings, and
  • deaths caused by opioid or other drug poisonings.

Data about emergency medical service 911 calls
Emergency medical services respond to 911 calls for people experiencing opioid poisonings in our community. Data about these 911 calls is used to help us understand more about trends in local opioid poisonings.

Data is preliminary

Information on drug poisoning deaths is based on preliminary data.

Data includes:

  • deaths that have been confirmed by a coroner to have been caused by a drug poisoning; and
  • deaths that are suspected to have been caused by a drug poisoning based on the situation surrounding a person’s death

Numbers will change if an investigation determines that the death wasn’t caused by a drug poisoning.
