Peterborough Public Health Launches “Notify Me” Campaign

Together with its municipal partners the City and County of Peterborough, Peterborough Public Health launched its “Notify Me” campaign today to make it easier for residents to find out when they can receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

All residents need to do is visit www.peterboroughpublichealth.ca/notifyme to sign up with their email address and indicate which group(s) they want to be notified about. When local clinics and healthcare providers are ready to serve that group in the coming weeks, Peterborough Public Health will send an email to those on the mailing list explaining how to book a vaccination appointment.

“With a rapidly changing vaccine distribution plan and other Ontario regions opening up eligibility for different groups at different times, it can be confusing to know when it’s your turn to book an appointment,” said Brittany Cadence, Communications Manager. “By simply providing us with your email address, we hope to provide peace of mind to residents by leaving it with us to contact them directly once the groups they’ve selected become eligible to book a COVID-19 vaccine appointment.”

Cadence noted in addition to asking when various age groups become eligible, many residents want to know when they can get vaccinated based on specific chronic health conditions. “Details are still being finalized on how to best vaccinate residents with the chronic health conditions identified by the Ontario Government in its Phase 2 vaccination plan. By signing up with ‘Notify Me’, we will be able to provide tailored information in our notifications to those who fall into the various health categories once it becomes available.”

Cadence added that the “Notify Me” online form is also designed to allow residents to receive notifications for multiple groups. She emphasized that this is simply a notification system and that no personal health information is collected so there is no privacy impact. All email addresses gathered through the form will be stored securely until use and then deleted after the final notification is issued once Phase 3 vaccinations begin.

Peterborough Public Health is only able to notifying people by email, and encourages those without an email address to ask a loved one with an email address to sign up on their behalf. As a reminder, signing up to be notified is not an invitation to receive the vaccine. You must also be in the eligible population to sign up to receive the vaccine. More information about proving eligibility will be available on the Peterborough Public Health vaccine webpage.

To sign up to receive a notification when COVID-19 vaccine eligibility opens up to a specific group, please visit www.peterboroughpublichealth.ca/notifyme.
