Current Status COVID-19 Risk Index Moves to “High Risk”

Peterborough Public Health has launched a new dashboard, the Peterborough Region COVID-19 Tracker. This interactive dashboard will merge the COVID-19 Community Risk Index and the previous case and status data from the COVID-19 tracker.

“We are pleased to be sharing additional data in an interactive way for our residents,” said Dr, Thomas Piggott, Medical Officer of Health. “The new Peterborough Region COVID-19 Tracker will bring all local COVID-19 data to one spot.” Dr Piggott added, “This updated tracker will provide evidence for residents to make an informed choice for their health.” Dr. Piggott noted this information will be of particular importance to people at higher risk of severe COVID-19 symptoms who are looking for evidence-based health behaviour recommendations. “Residents are reminded to review the tracker weekly for updates on local transmission and guidance for COVID-19 safe behaviours.”

Dr. Piggott reminds residents that it is still very important to follow the Risk Index recommendations to protect ourselves and allow transmission to decrease further. “Transmission in our community has moved to the high level. While this is hopeful that we are seeing transmission start to slow down, we are still seeing high rates of transmission in the ongoing pandemic and precautions continue to be critical.”

In the “High Risk” category, the following health behaviours are recommended:

 Guidance for General Population

  • Mask: Recommended for all interactions with people from outside your household.
  • Social Gatherings: Limit social gatherings indoors.
  • High-risk Settings*: Limit attending high-risk settings.

Guidance for High Risk Population

  • Mask: Strongly Recommended for all interactions with people from outside your household.
  • Social Gatherings: Avoid social gatherings in all settings.
  • High-risk Settings*: Avoid attending high-risk settings.
