General Electric Remediation Support

Residents who believe that their homes may have insulation with asbestos-containing material that came from GE’s Peterborough facility are encouraged to call the GE Canada Environmental Programs Information Line at 1-877-399-9599.

GE has informed Peterborough Public Health that all calls received by the information line will be responded to. GE will arrange for a qualified service provider to attend the home and identify and take a sample of the material. The sample will be tested to determine if the material came from GE’s Peterborough facility, which consisted of 70% asbestos and 30% cotton. All test results will be provided to property owners by the service provider.

If testing confirms that the material came from GE’s Peterborough facility, remediation will be offered. Remediation includes the removal of material, replacement of required insulation and any necessary re-construction. Air monitoring will be conducted during the remediation process. If there is a need for occupants to vacate the home during the remediation process, expenses will be covered by General Electric.

Any further questions about this program should be directed to the GE Canada Environmental Programs Information Line at
