COVID-19 Vaccine Update: Second Dose Completed for All Local Long-term Care Residents

Written by Comms Team, March 10, 2021

Peterborough Public Health announced that it has completed second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine for all local long-term care home (LTCH) residents, resulting in a 90% uptake.

“This day has been long awaited and we are proud to have helped protect Peterborough’s most vulnerable seniors from COVID-19,” said Dr. Rosana Salvaterra, Medical Officer of Health. “While this is a big step towards preventing and controlling COVID-19 in the community, public health measures remain in place. It is important that even those who are vaccinated do not let their guard down at this time.”
Ministry of Health data shared recently shows how the vaccination of LTCH residents across the province has led to a significant decline in cases and deaths in this setting.

With the support of its community partners, Peterborough Public Health continues to provide first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to populations in Phase 1. This includes LTCH staff, retirement home residents and staff, citizens of Curve Lake First Nation, and highest priority health care workers. This week, vaccinations will begin in Hiawatha First Nation and in clinics for urban Indigenous people. Next week, Peterborough Public Health will hold COVID-19 vaccine clinics in senior congregate living facilities and start vaccinating residents born in 1941 or earlier.

Visit the Peterborough Public Health webpage for information on local vaccine status and Peterborough COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan.
