Charge Laid, Warning Issued for Breaching Section 22 Orders Breaches Involve Two Separate Section 22 Orders, One at Severn Court

Written by Communications, March 4, 2021

Peterborough Public Health has laid charges and issued a formal warning involving two different Section 22 Class Orders.

For the charge, Peterborough Public Health received information on March 2, 2021 that an individual who tested positive for COVID-19 breached self-isolation requirements. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that indeed the individual failed to comply with the October 13, 2020 Section 22 Class Order for self-isolation. A charge was laid on March 2, 2021 under the Health Protection and Promotion Act, resulting in a total fine of $880.

A different individual was investigated for breaching Part 2 of the Section 22 Class Order issued on February 27, 2021 to residents of Severn Court Student Residence. There was not enough evidence to lay a charge in this case, so instead a formal warning was issued.

Peterborough Public Health will continue to respond to and investigate complaints related to individuals who are not complying with self-isolation requirements. With the increase in presumed variants of concern (VOC), self-isolation is critical in order to protect the community at large. Breach of self-isolation is a serious offence and will be met with consequences.

Complaints can be reported at www.peterboroughpublichealth.ca using this online form.
