500 Free Tickets and Great Prizes Available for Those Who “Get a Shot to Take a Shot” Between August 9 and September 30

Peterborough Public Health and the Peterborough Petes announced an exciting new partnership today designed to motivate the last few thousand eligible residents who aren’t fully vaccinated yet to get immunized and protect our community against COVID-19.

“Increasing local vaccination rates as quickly as possible is vital to fending off the Delta variant, so we are thrilled to team up with the Petes through this exciting campaign,” said Dr. Rosana Salvaterra, Medical Officer of Health. “We need to reach 90% coverage rates of eligible individuals to achieve herd immunity in order to prevent spreading COVID-19 and the disruption it can cause to things our community loves, like hockey.”

The “Get a Shot to Take a Shot” campaign offers anyone who gets a COVID-19 vaccine dose between August 9 and September 30, 2021 a chance to win one of 250 pairs of tickets to a Petes’ home game. Of those ticket winners, five will be drawn for an opportunity to shoot the puck in the net at centre ice during the first intermission of an upcoming home game. The winner of the shootout will then get to enjoy another Petes’ home game in the Petes Executive Suite.

“The Petes are excited to team up with Peterborough Public Health for the ‘Get a Shot to Take a Shot,’ campaign. We understand that the safest and quickest way to return to a hockey season with an arena full of cheering fans is dependent on vaccine uptake. It will be an honour to host hundreds of local fans who have done their part to keep the Peterborough community safe at games next season,” explained Executive Director of Business Operations, Burton Lee.

Dr. Salvaterra noted she welcomed this creative partnership with the Petes as a positive way to encourage vaccination among those who aren’t immunized. “The Petes and OHL as a whole have shown great leadership in promoting COVID-19 vaccination in many ways which helps to normalize it, especially to our younger residents who were among the last to become eligible and who we really hope to protect before the school year starts.”

Anyone who receives a first or second dose between August 9 and September 30 at a clinic run by Peterborough Public Health, Peterborough Regional Health Centre, or a local pharmacy, can enter the contest. At each clinic location there is a QR code that can be easily scanned to complete an online ballot upon checking out once the vaccination is complete. People who receive both first and second doses during the contest period can enter twice. Winners will be announced at live raffle draw held by the Petes on September 30, 2021.
