Red Flags

“ Red Flags” is a Quick Reference Guide for Early Years Professionals and contains local referral information and services.  It is organized by topic and can be used in conjunction with a validated screening tool, such as Nipissing District Developmental Screens (NDDS), Rourke Baby Record, or Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ).

Red Flags outlines a range of functional indicators or domains commonly used to monitor healthy child development, as well as potential problem areas for child development. It is intended to assist in the determination of when and where to refer for additional advice, formal assessment and/or treatment.

Best Start: Ontario’s Maternal Newborn and Early Child Development Resource Centre has developed an enhanced provincial version of Red Flags which has more detail but cannot include local referral resources. This new resource is called On Track: Supporting Healthy Child Development and Early Identification in the Early Years, A  Reference Guide for Professionals in Ontario.
