The health risks and the development of skin cancers from overexposure to the sun (UV Radiation) are largely preventable.
Using a combination of five steps you can protect yourself against sun damage.
- Slip on some sun-protective clothing that covers as much skin as possible
- Slop on SPF 30+ sunscreen – make sure it is broad spectrum and water resistant. Apply 20 minutes before you go outdoors and reapply every two hours
- Slap on a hat that protects your face, head, neck and ears
- Seek shade
- Slide on some sunglasses – make sure they are CSA approved
Avoid sun exposure between 11 am and 4pm when the sun’s rays are the strongest.
