Water

Drinking water containing harmful bacteria can make you sick. These bacteria can give you stomach cramps and/or diarrhea, as well as other problems.

Water with these bacteria is unsafe to drink. The only way to make sure your water supply is safe to drink is to test it regularly. Testing for bacteria is done free. Sample bottles are available in Peterborough at the Regional Public Health Laboratory and at Peterborough Public Health.

If you want to know more about private wells, you can check out our information package for owners of private wells – “How Well Is Your Well?”

For more information on test your drinking water or to speak with a Public Health Inspector, call Peterborough Public Health.
