Have an Emergency Kit

An emergency survival kit will contain basic items you and your family will need to take care of yourselves for at least three days after an emergency.  Your kit should also contain a copy of your Emergency Preparedness Action Plan.  It is important to ensure that your kit is kept in an accessible location and that everyone in your household knows where it is.

Don’t forget to think about specialized items that may need to be included in a kit for people with disabilities, people on medication, infants and pets.  You may want to use a backpack for your emergency kit so that it is more portable.  You may also wish to consider having personalized kits for each member of your family.  For videos, checklists and other resources about creating emergency survival kits, visit:
